{"id":1377,"date":"2018-09-14T22:11:44","date_gmt":"2018-09-14T22:11:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/integrativewellnessandmovement.com\/iwmanatphys\/?p=1377"},"modified":"2020-01-01T17:40:42","modified_gmt":"2020-01-02T01:40:42","slug":"bones-clavicle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/integrativewellnessandmovement.com\/iwmanatphys\/anatomyphysiologybones\/bones-clavicle\/","title":{"rendered":"Bones: Clavicle."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.integrativewellnessandmovement.com\/iwmstudentresources\/iwmbones\/IWM-APBonesclavicle.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Download these notes.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Anatomy &amp; Physiology: Bones\u2014Clavicle.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Structure.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The clavicle is long, flattish, and has a slight S-shape curve to it (but it isn&#8217;t as pronounced as one may think).<\/li>\n<li>Easily observed with the naked eye and also easily palpateable.<\/li>\n<li>Sternal end: the medial end of the clavicle articulates with the manubrium. The sternal end may be identifed as it is &#8220;blunt&#8221; and fairly straight-edged as compared to the acromial end.<\/li>\n<li>Acromial end: the lateral and more rounded end (almost spoon-like shape) that articulates with the scapula.<\/li>\n<li>Superior view: (bird&#8217;s eye view looking down) from the medial\/sternal end, the clavicle is slightly concave anteriorly. Proceeding laterally towards the acromial end, the curve changes to slightly convex anteriorly. The superior surface both appears and feels a bit smoother than the inferior side.<\/li>\n<li>Inferior view: the bone is rougher.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Function.<\/p>\n<p>Clinical Significance.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The midregion of the clavical where one part of the &#8220;S&#8221; curve transitions to the other is the weakest point of the clavical. Fractures often occur in this region.<\/li>\n<li>Falling poorly (i.e. with arms outstretched) and a superior-anterior blow may fracture the clavicle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"rl-gallery-container rl-loading\" id=\"rl-gallery-container-1\" data-gallery_id=\"6073\"> <div class=\"rl-gallery-description\">Clavicle.
