{"id":1651,"date":"2018-09-18T02:11:24","date_gmt":"2018-09-18T02:11:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/integrativewellnessandmovement.com\/iwmanatphys\/?p=1651"},"modified":"2020-01-01T11:41:31","modified_gmt":"2020-01-01T19:41:31","slug":"muscles-semispinalis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/integrativewellnessandmovement.com\/iwmanatphys\/anatomyphysiologymuscles\/muscles-semispinalis\/","title":{"rendered":"Muscles: Semispinalis."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.integrativewellnessandmovement.com\/iwmstudentresources\/iwmmuscles\/IWM-APMuscles-semispinalis.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Download these notes.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Anatomy &amp; Physiology: Muscles\u2014Semispinalis, of transversospinalis group.<\/p>\n<p>Structure.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Semispinalis Capitis\n<ul>\n<li>Origin: transverse processes of C7-T6, articular processes of C4-C6.<\/li>\n<li>Insertion: occipital bone between the superior and inferior nuchal lines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Semispinalis Cervicis\n<ul>\n<li>Origin: transverse processes of T1-T5.<\/li>\n<li>Insertion: spinous processes of C2-C5.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Semispinalis Thoracis\n<ul>\n<li>Origin: transverse processes of T6-T10.<\/li>\n<li>Insertion: spinous processes of C6-T4.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Function.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Concentric action: head, neck, and trunk extension; lateral flexion of head, neck, and trunk; rotate head to side opposing contracting muscle.<\/li>\n<li>Reverse mover action: lower spine extension; lower spine lateral flexion; ipsilateral rotation of the lower spine.<\/li>\n<li>Eccentric action: controls\/restrains\/slows flexion and contralateral lateral flexion of head, neck, and trunk; ipsilateral rotation of neck and trunk; contralateral rotation of the lower spine.<\/li>\n<li>Isometric action: stabilization of spine and head.<\/li>\n<li>Innervation: cervical and thoracic spinal nerves.<\/li>\n<li>Arterial supply: occipital artery, dorsal branches of posterior intercostal arteries, deep cervical artery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Clinical Significance.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"rl-gallery-container rl-loading\" id=\"rl-gallery-container-1\" data-gallery_id=\"5689\"> <div class=\"rl-gallery-description\">Semispinalis capitis.
