Simple\/basic stains help us to observe the morphological characteristics. Examples of simple stains: methylene blue, crystal violet, carbol fuchsin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clinical significance<\/strong>. Relatively quick and easily performed staining technique that aids in basic identification via morphological characteristics. Also helps to estimate the prevalence\/proliferation of the organism.<\/p>\n<p><b>Summary of procedure.<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Using aseptic technique at all times, prepare a smear &amp; heat fix.<\/li>\n<li>Flood slide with<br \/>\n<strong>Methylene blue<\/strong> for 1-2 minutes, or<br \/>\n<strong>Crystal violet<\/strong> for 20-60 seconds, or<br \/>\n<strong>Carbol fuchsin<\/strong> for 15-30 seconds.<\/li>\n<li>Using a bottle of deionized water, gently rinse the slide while holding the slide parallel to the stream of water.<\/li>\n<li>Very very gently blot (not wipe) slide using bibulous paper.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Reference<\/p>\n<p>Cappuccino,\u00a0J.\u00a0G., &amp; Welsh,\u00a0C.
