You must be responsible and accountable for every choice, decision, and action (good or bad) in your life\u2014in work, school, and personal domains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is my biggest number 1 tip for interviewing for medical school, residency, or anything else. It all starts with knowing yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ve written your short essay responses, your c.v.\/resume, and you&#8217;ve sent your transcripts in. Keep copies of everything you turn in. Review these pieces of your application packet and know them intimately. You don&#8217;t want to go in and be clueless about the material you&#8217;ve turned in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Some questions you should be prepared to answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>How are you today? (there are no inconsequential questions)<\/li><li>Tell me about yourself.<\/li><li>There will be specific questions about the application packet you turned in (e.g. resume\/c.v., essay questions, transcripts).<\/li><li>Are there any red flags in your educational\/employment history that you need to explain?<\/li><li>Why medicine?<\/li><li>Why this medical program?<\/li><li>Why this school?<\/li><li>Why should we pick you?<\/li><li>Why not allied health (nursing, nurse practitioner, physician&#8217;s assistant, physical therapist, osteopath, chiropractic, etc.)?<\/li><li>What makes you think that you can handle the rigor, intensity, workload, and stress of medical school?<\/li><li>What are your strengths?<\/li><li>What are your biggest weaknesses\/challenges?<\/li><li>What inspired your interest in medicine?<\/li><li>What qualities make a good physician? What qualities make a poor physician?<\/li><li>What experiences have you had in a clinic or hospital setting?<\/li><li>What experience do you have caring for patients?<\/li><li>What experience do you have in the medical setting?<\/li><li>What do you bring to our school\/program community?<\/li><li>What aspects of your life make you a good candidate?<\/li><li>What reservations do you have about the medical field?<\/li><li>Tell me about an experience you&#8217;ve had working in a team?  What was your role in the team?<\/li><li>What does teamwork mean to you?<\/li><li>What makes a good team?<\/li><li>What role do you typically play in a team?<\/li><li>Tell me about a mistake you&#8217;ve made and what you learned from it.<\/li><li>Tell me about a time you were not as dependable as you&#8217;d like to have been.<\/li><li>How do you deal with stress?<\/li><li>How do you deal with stressful situations?<\/li><li>How do you deal with negative comments about your profession (e.g. alternative medicine is quackery)?<\/li><li>What has been your most rewarding experience working with others?<\/li><li>Why did you choose your major?<\/li><li>How has your major prepared you for a career in medicine?<\/li><li>What&#8217;s your favorite class and why?<\/li><li>Discuss a book you recently read for pleasure.<\/li><li>What are some of your hobbies?<\/li><li>How do you spend your free time?<\/li><li>What are your specific goals in medicine?<\/li><li>What areas would you like to specialize?<\/li><li>How do you see yourself practicing?<\/li><li>What will you do if you don&#8217;t get into medical school?<\/li><li>How would a friend describe you?<\/li><li>What is your greatest fault?<\/li><li>Tell me about your family?<\/li><li>What does your family think about your decision to pursue medicine?<\/li><li>What support system do you have?<\/li><li>How do you intend to pay for your education?<\/li><li>If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be and how would you do it?<\/li><li>How effective do you feel dealing with people other than your peers?<\/li><li>How do you deal with people from different cultural or socioeconomic backgrounds?<\/li><li>What do you think is the hardest part of this profession?<\/li><li>What is a normal day in your life like?<\/li><li>Do you have any regrets?<\/li><li>What are you passionate about?<\/li><li>What are the low points in your life and why?<\/li><li>Tell me about a time when people&#8217;s actions depended on a decision that you made.<\/li><li>Is there anything else you&#8217;d like us to know about you?<\/li><li>Do you have any questions for us (you definitely should have questions for them)?<\/li><li>List important qualities of being a good student.<\/li><li>What makes you happy?<\/li><li>Who are your role models?<\/li><li>What do you believe in?<\/li><li>Are you religious?<\/li><li>What do you care about and illustrate that by telling us about an experience.<\/li><li>Describe an unusual event in your life.<\/li><li>If you were granted 3 wishes, what would they be?<\/li><li>How do you define success?<\/li><li>How do you want people to remember you?<\/li><li>What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?<\/li><li>How do you define failure?<\/li><li>How do you handle or respond to criticism?<\/li><li>How do you handle conflict?<\/li><li>Describe your learning style.<\/li><li>Tell me a joke?<\/li><li>Teach me something non-medical in 5 minutes.<\/li><li>Describe your style of communicating and interacting with others.<\/li><li>Describe a situation in which you were dependable and demonstrated initiative.<\/li><li>Describe your experience with diversity or diverse populations.<\/li><li>Describe a situation where you had to deal with difficult teammates and how was that resolved.<\/li><li>How do you handle change?<\/li><li>How do you adapt?<\/li><li>Tell me about a time that you were criticized unfairly.<\/li><li>In what course did you get the worse grades and why.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Know yourself.
