Structure.

  • Cavities near the nasal cavity that have a mucousal membrane lining that are continuous with nasal cavity lining.

 

 

Function.

  • Lighten the weight of the skull.
  • Increase area of nasal mucosa for filtering, warming, and moistening the air.
