Anatomy & Physiology: Muscles—Inferior oblique.

 

Structure.

  • Origin: mandible.

  • Insertion: underneath surface of tongue; hyoid bone.

Function.

  • Concentric action: depress tongue; thrusts tongue anteriorly (protraction).

  • Eccentric action:      

  • Isometric action:

  • Innervation: hypoglossal XII nerve.

  • Arterial supply: Lingual artery.
