Anatomy & Physiology: Muscles—Inferior oblique.

 

Structure.

  • Origin: styloid process of temporal bone.

  • Insertion: side and undersurface of tongue.

Function.

  • Concentric action: elevates and retracts tongue.

  • Eccentric action:

  • Innervation: hypoglossal XII nerve.

  • Arterial supply: sublingual branch of the lingual artery.
